Welcome to the BASICS JIP website

The Blockage Avoidance in Subsea Injection and Control Systems (BASICS) Joint Industry Project (JIP) was setup in response to industry wide issues with blockages and restrictions in Subsea Production Systems. The JIP was established following an initiative between the UMF (Umbilical Manufacturers Federation) and the SUT (Society for Underwater Technology), which brought the importance of the issue to the fore within the industry.

The aim of the JIP is to prevent blockages from occurring in subsea chemical injection and control systems. The JIP has three main objectives:

  • Develop a recommend practice document in respect of the handling / usage and control of service fluids used offshore in subsea injection and control systems

  • Develop a standard for qualifying service fluids for transmission in subsea injection and control systems

  • Develop a complimentary Computer Based Training (CBT) module
